Ubuntu Cultural Village
Meaning of "Ubuntu"
Ubuntu has
many meanings, most prominent of which are "working together" and "spirit of humanity." It
is an Nguni word (from South Africa) describing an
African philosophy of life and an ethical guide for social conduct. It
looks at the universe as a composite whole, an organic
entity, and emphasizes group solidarity over individualism.
The Inspiration – 2002
UN World Summit
Ubuntu
Village Exposition was an amazing space of country pavilions,
performances, workshops, demonstrations and arts & crafts
for the general public during the 2002 UN World Summit
on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa,
a kind of People's World Summit that parallelled the
high-level summit nearby.
