Engagement Circles

June 2013 is Engagement Circles Month! If you’re thinking of starting an Engagement Circle, we’ll send you free resources! (see below)

A free program of the Sustainable World Coalition, Engagement Circles are small groups of dedicated people working together to support each other's commitment to a just and sustainable world. During June 2013, participants in the Spring of Sustainability are gathering worldwide to form Engagement Circles.

To create an Engagement Circle, a convener gathers 6-12 people who commit to meet once or twice a month for nine sessions to deepen their understanding of the critical issues affecting us (environment, social justice, economics, etc.) and to support each other in making lifestyle changes and becoming effective change agents.

All that's needed to start an Engagement Circle is a comfortable room to meet, plus

If you’re thinking of starting an Engagement Circle, we’ll be happy to send you the above three resources for free – plus a sample invitation letter to your friends. (No obligation required!) To receive them, just enter your name and email address at the bottom of this page.

You can opt out of our email list if you’d like, but we will check in with you by email occasionally just to see how your Engagement Circles experience is going – and to ask if we can support you (at no charge) in your Engagement Circles work.

The Sustainable World Sourcebook and Learning & Engagement Guide together foster a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of the world's most pressing global challenges—and of the most promising solutions. By diligently working with the books in the simple program format described in the free Convener's Guide, individuals and whole communities can learn together to be part of the solution.

As you'll see in the Convener's Guide, Engagement Circle attendees organize their own Circles in whatever way works best for participants. The Learning & Engagement Guide, which provides the program “curriculum,” features:

  • Provocative questions for dialogue
  • Fun and revealing exercises to do as a group
  • Inspiring and moving short videos to view
  • Important websites to check out
  • Effective actions to take individually and together

Anyone can convene Engagement Circles; typically, participants may be a group of friends, neighbors, work colleagues, a church service group, book club, organizational members, etc. To request a free copy of the Engagement Circle Facilitators' Guide (a two-page set of easy step-by-step guidelines for creating a rich, fulfilling Circle experience), please fill out the form below.
