Mission

Identity

We are a coalition of individuals and supporting organizations who work toward a world that is environmentally sustainable, socially just and spiritually fulfilling.

Purpose

Our work is to educate, inspire and activate, fostering a strong engagement in planetary sustainability and a fair, equitable human society.

Mission

We produce programs, events and materials for education and engagement to promote action that restores and maintains the health of the planet and the well-being of humanity.

Affiliation

We are a project of the Earth Island Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Principles

Internal

  1. Clearly articulated mission statement and set of principles

Vinit Allen

Vinit Allen is Executive Director of Sustainable World Coalition.

Vinit (pronounced “Vih-neet”) brings a 30-year entrepreneurial and activist background to bear on his work in sustainability education. His love and respect for nature acts as a guide, and combining that with the goal of a just human society–the idea that everyone deserves the same basic opportunities for a decent life–comprises the Coalition’s mission of creating a healthy future for all.

He is the visionary behind and publisher of the 2011 International Book Award-winning Sustainable World Sourcebook, the accompanying Learning & Engagement Guide, and the multi-media telecourse, Co-Creating a Thriving World.

He was a delegate at the UN World Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2002 where the Coalition was founded, and he created and produced the Sustainable World Symposium in 2004 and 2006 in San Francisco. He is also a facilitator trainer for the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium, which is presented in over 60 countries.

Vinit is available for conference presentations and panel moderation.

Vinit Allen, Founder and Executive Director

Vinit Allen

Vinit is an educator and event producer, and has been an activist in the arenas of the environment, peace and human rights for about 30 years. He produced the Sustainable World Symposium twice in San Francisco and is a facilitator trainer for the Awakening the Dreamer Symposium. He was a delegate at the UN World Summit In Johannesburg, South Africa in 2002, where the Sustainable World Symposium and Sourcebook were conceived.

Steve Motenko, Director of Operations

Steve Motenko

Steve Motenko is a certified personal coach and leadership trainer, and formerly an award-winning journalist, music teacher, and advocate for educational reform. Steve's passion for sustainability, for transformative education, and for an integral approach to the interdependence of all life led him to a leadership role in the Awakening the Dreamer facilitator community, and in 2011 to the Sustainable World Coalition.

Lynne Michelson, Guidebook and Course Development

Lynne Michelson

Lynne is co-author of the Sustainable World Sourcebook Learning & Engagement Guide and co-creator and facilitator of SWC's multi-media course, Co-Creating A Thriving World. She brings over 35 years of personal growth, leadership training and teaching to her writing, sustainability work, and coaching. She has been involved with The Pachamama Alliance, Be the Change Earth Alliance and Whats Your Tree? as a facilitator, leader, curriculum creator and mentor.

Renée Soule, Course Development & Instruction

Renee Soule

Renée Soule, PhD candidate, has been a pioneer in the field of ecopsychology for over 25 years. She engages environmental crises as a positive, though challenging, evolutionary force for human and cultural development. Renée teaches Nonviolent Communication (NVC) at San Quentin Prison, is adjunct faculty at California Institute of Integral Studies, and teaches part-time at San Francisco State University.

Kathy Glass, Chief Editor & Sourcebook

Living off-grid in Northern California, Kathy Glass is a freelance editor and writer. She has been active in environmental work for 30 years, with a special love for ancient forests and the oceans. She currently works with Friends of The Eel River and as a self-employed book editor and ghost writer.

A Master In Management candidate and dynamic facilitator, Jude helps teach sustainability leadership. Prior to nonprofit community-based leadership & in sustainable forestry, restoration jobs, watershed repair and landscape protection & she practiced land use geology on tribal, private and public land.

Since 2007, June has been actively sharing the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium, with over 50 Groups in 21 cities. She brings 25 years of diverse experience—including editing/proofing, community organizing, environmental ed, group facilitation, and life coaching.
